Liberty Flames football traveled to Baylor as heavy underdogs. The Flames, led by Stephen Calvert, took down the bears 48-45 with a heavy dose of run and pass. Calvert set the school record Saturday. His numbers were impressive. 73% completion percentage (44-60) for 447 yds. passing and 3 TD’s. Calvert added 1 touchdown on the ground as well. has continued to improve from his true freshman year as Liberty’s starting QB. The 3 star QB from South Florida was overlooked by many top college programs proving how the quarterback position is the most difficult to evaluate in all of college sports.
Calvert, who works with private quarterback coach Ken Mastrole in south Florida has be with MQA since the 5th grade. Mastrole remembers Calvert’s father bringing his son to the first training session and referring to the lanky QB as “Buckshot”. The name was fitting for a young quarterback who had a naturally gifted arm and had a knack for one of the strongest and most accurate arms for his age. “Buckshot, from day 1, you knew had a natural feel and savvy to play this position” said Mastrole. “He’s a gifted quarterback that can carry a team with his arm and thrives on the big stage” adds Mastrole.
